You can grant DataCite long-lasting permissions using their Import Tool from your ORCID record or directly at DataCite. To benefit from ORCID auto-update, you must also enable auto-update in your personal DataCite profile. Once it is enabled, whenever a data centre submits a new work to DataCite which has your ORCID iD embedded in the work metadata, DataCite will automatically add it to your ORCID record.

You can disable DataCite auto-update at any time from your DataCite profile, or by revoking permissions to DataCite from your ORCID account settings.

Grant (one-off) permission to DataCite to add your dataset to your ORCID record:

  • Sign in with your ORCID account and click ‘Authorize”.
  • You will be asked to authorise access to allow DataCite access to your ORCID record.
  • Once signed in, select "Click to Enable" next to "ORCID Auto-Update". You will then be prompted to allow DataCite to automatically add works to your ORCID record. Details here.

Important:

Disabling auto-update: You can revoke permissions for auto-update at any time in the settings of your ORCID record.
