Materials without a copyright notice or a copyright statement may be copyrighted, since any original work that is fixed in a tangible medium of expression automatically receives copyright protection. Authors do not need to affix a copyright symbol, notice or statement for their works to be protected.

While the use of a copyright symbol, notice or statement indicates that copyright exists, their absence does not imply a waiver or absence of copyright.
