Q. How to edit EndNote citation style to show a single author (i.e. "Lee et al, 2009" instead of "Lee, Khor, Chan, Lim, Tan, 2009")?

Answer

Listed below are the steps to edit the Author-Date style to show only one author followed by et al in the citation: (The same steps could be used to edit other citation styles as well.)

1. Open the EndNote program and click on Edit > Output Styles > Edit "Author-Date".

2. Next click on Author Lists under Citations as shown below. Under the section Abbreviated Author List - First Appearance, change the number 2 to 1.

3. Next click on Author Lists under Bibliography.

4. Choose the second option under Abbreviated Author List and make changes.

5. Next, close and save.

6. Save the new style as "Author-Date List First Author" or other similar names. After that, choose this new style name when inserting citations into your Word document.

Try to follow the same steps to modify the required EndNote citation style.
